The roar of the bush plane's engine kept the passengers' conversations down to one-and two-word sentences. Three veteran archers and a tag-along cameraman all strained to catch a glimpse of the big bulls they would be chasing for the next 10 days. No moose were seen during the 20-minute flight from Fort Nelson , British Columbia . There were only bogs, lakes, and gently rolling terrain covered with head-high willows. As the party of bowhunters neared the hunting area, moose hunting guide, Phil Gillis, explained that six years before, 360,000 acres of his 1.2-million acre hunting territory were devastated by a raging fire. Although the fire had long since die out the big burn was now a red-hot center of activity for trophy moose attracted by the tender young browse that provided great feed.
